About the Event
“Illuminating portraits of disability activism with much to teach nondisabled readers. … Mattlin offers unique insights into disabled people's fights for civil rights, the many faces of ableism, and the emergence of a spirit of disability pride.”
--Kirkus Reviews
“Ben Mattlin‘s new book Disability Pride is a gorgeous, well done, and well-rounded report and perspective on disability justice and rights throughout American history—both objectively and through Mattlin’s lens. As someone who is Gen Z, I find it particularly poignant to learn about disability history and so many other different perspectives and lives in the disabled community through this book. Reading Disability Pride has been such a beautiful experience, and I’m so grateful for Mr. Mattlin and this incredible work.”
--Aaron Rose Philip, supermodel & social media influencer
"I devoured Disability Pride. This is the book I wish I’d had as a young disabled person growing up in a world that told me almost nothing about the dynamic community or history of which I was a part. Ben Mattlin has gathered our stories to tell a true and complicated tale of disability pride. Leaning into the infinitely diverse range of intersections and expressions of disability, Mattlin expands the narrow portrayals of disability to tell a deeply human story that fostered a sturdy kind of pride in me."
--Rebekah Taussig, author of Sitting Pretty: The View from My Ordinary Resilient
