On July 4, 1976, one of the boldest and successful special operations of all time was carried out by Israel. The military force flew an unprecedented 2,500 miles to Uganda, largely over hostile territory and with only enough fuel for one leg of the journey, to rescue civilians on Air France 139 who were being held hostage.
