PROF. DAVID BIALE AND HASIDISM

UC Davis Prof. David Biale will discuss his co-authored book Hasidism, a must-read that offers an understanding of this vibrant and influential modern Jewish movement. From its birth in southeastern Poland under the leadership of Israel Ba'al Shem Tov, to its growth starting in the late 18th century, Biale will explore the movement's social and intellectual history and explain why Hasidism has been called "a radical alternative to the secular world."
