About the Event

The CCJCC is excited to partner with the Contra Costa Midrasha (a very innovative evening teen school) on its Fall/Winter-Tastic Food Series! Teens AND adults are invited to sign up for these interactive food sessions featuring an international array of chefs joining us live on Zoom to teach you a delicious recipe with ingredients that will be delivered right to your door! The three series classes include:

November 11, 8:00 pm: Sephardic Hand Pies with French chef Helene Jawhara Piner

December 9, 6:00 pm: Veggie Root Latkes with Brooklyn-based chef Liz Alpern

January 27, 6:00 pm: Marlene Bernstein will make fresh falafel from scratch from her sunny LA home.

Cost is $70 for just one class. (Enrolled CCM teens get a discount.)

December 9th: making root-vegetable latkes and pear-applesauce from scratch with Liz Alpern. Alpern is co-author of The Gefilte Manifesto: New Recipes for Old World Jewish Foods (Flatiron Books, 2016) and co-owner of The Gefilteria, a food venture that’s been reimagining Old World Jewish Foods since 2012. She is also the creator of Queer Soup Night, a global event series highlighting the talent of queer chefs and raising funds for locally-based social justice organizations.

And don't forget to order a copy of Liz Alpern's cookbook, "The Gefilte Manifesto."  We'll deliver them right to your door along with your ingredients for the December 9th workshop.  (Makes a great Hanukkah gift for all the foodies in your life!)

Sponsors: CCJCC and Contra Costa Midrasha.
