About the Event
Growing up a Jewish child of color in America’s predominately Ashkenazi Jewish world is a challenge. Join Doctors Jack and Judy Mates, a psychiatrist and an OB/GYN respectively, to explore the framework that parents can provide to support their multiracial children’s confidence in their Jewish identity. Jack and Judy put planning into raising their five Chinese Jewish children. They will share their process, which one of their daughters, a rabbi, calls “the fire drill,” a strategy for dealing with detractors that was age and personality appropriate for each child.
Facilitator Dawn Kepler, founding director of Building Jewish Bridges, has worked in interfaith outreach since 1990. She has run workshops and classes in synagogues, JCCs, Jewish Federations, & Jewish agencies.
Admission is free. Upon registration, you will first receive a confirmation email. An hour before the program begins, we will email the Zoom link you need to join the event.
